Buddy Up and Stay Motivated: Week after week, year after year, how do you sustain a fitness lifestyle? It's not easy, but maintaining motivation and consistency is easier than falling off the fitness wagon and having to work extra hard to get back on. Here are some tips to keep going. Buddy Up - How do you find an exercise buddy? Just look around. Maybe your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, son or daughter, co-worker or neighbor would like to work out with you. Or perhaps look to that friend of yours who constantly complains about the need to start exercising again. Many people meet like-minded friends in group exercise classes and then encourage each other to attend regularly. Exercise partners are not just for the gym. It also works to pair up for cycling, running or walking. Time also seems to pass more quickly exercising together than going at it solo. Keep Track - One way to encourage yourself is by monitoring your progress with an exercise or nutrition journal. You can write information in a notebook (or use the LifeBalance Activity Tracker and LifeBalance Activity Journal in the personalized MyLifeBalance section. Monitor your progress, achieved your goals and stay on track. Enlist A Trainer - The American Council on Exercise recommends hiring a personal trainer for, among other things, motivation and consistency in your workout schedule. If personal training is outside the scope of your budget, book just a few sessions with a trainer to start out right. A trainer can help you find exercises suited to your goals, teach you how to get results and avoid injury. Reward Yourself - Buy something for yourself, treating yourself to a movie, get a massage or just take a well deserved break. Other rewards for sticking with your fitness goals could be new clothes to show off your abs or arms, new exercise gear or simply the reward of someone saying, "You look great!" (24 Hour Fitness )

Smart Breakfast When Dining Out: More and more people are dining out for breakfast. According to a recent report, about 11 percent of morning meals are eaten out and six percent are eaten on the go, double the rate of a decade ago. Having a wholesome breakfast gives you a nutritional head start on the whole day. By eating foods that are high in fiber and carbohydrates but low in fat, you get your metabolism moving faster. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Here are some key tips to help you make healthy choices. Eggscellent Start - Eggs scrambled, fried, poached, boiled or in omelets are the ultimate breakfast food. Eggs are rich in protein, B vitamins, iron and other minerals. But they are also loaded with cholesterol, all from the yolk. Eating a single egg puts you close to the recommended daily limit for cholesterol. If you're having eggs, round out your breakfast with heart-healthy selections like fruits and whole grains. You can also order egg whites or egg substitutes, which don't have any cholesterol but provide protein, vitamins and minerals. Go Whole Grain - Whole wheat toast, oatmeal, buckwheat pancakes and grits are some of the good for you, whole grain options you'll find on the breakfast menu in many restaurants. Whole grains are super nutritious, low in fat and can reduce your risk of disease and help you maintain a healthy weight. Try eating at least three servings of whole grains each day. A serving is about the same as a slice of bread or a cup of dry cereal. Some cold cereals also contain whole grains, check the food label or ask your server. Fruitful Dishes - Fruit is another standard on the restaurant breakfast menu to take advantage of. Fruit is a goldmine of vitamins, minerals, fiber and disease-fighting antioxidants. Grapefruit halves, melon slices and seasonal fruit cups are frequent, flavorful options. You can often order yogurt topped with fruit or granola topped with fruit. Remember, it is better to eat your fruit rather than drink it, because you get more fiber that way. Load up on Calcium - Breakfast is a good meal to get your calcium. Fat-free or low fat milk or milk-based foods are a terrific source of the mighty mineral, which plays an important role in building and maintaining healthy bones and teeth. Eat a bowl of cereal swimming in milk, order a yogurt or go for a smoothie. (Food Fit)

New Challenges Bring Excitement and Adventure: My wife and I are giving birth to our second child this month. It is true that she has been doing all the work of growing our baby in her belly and she will be the one to go through the labor pains and pushing. But just like giving birth to a child, most people find that "birthing" something new in their life can be challenging and exhausting. It’s not all rainbows and pink clouds, but without a doubt, the birth of a new experience is also filled with excitement and aliveness. Are you ready to start something new with your LifeBalance? Whether it is a personal relationship, new workout program, or a different career, give yourself patience and remember that with each new challenge comes the excitement of an exciting and courageous adventure. The tomato is the world's most popular fruit. And yes, just like the brinjal and the pumpkin, botanically speaking it is a fruit, not a vegetable. More than 60 million tons of tomatoes are produced per year, 16 million tons more than the second most popular fruit, the banana. Apples are the third most popular (36 million tons), then oranges (34 million tons) and watermelons (22 million tons). Tomatoes were first cultivated in 700 AD by Aztecs and Incas. Explorers returning from Mexico introduced the tomato into Europe, where it was first mentioned in 1556. The French called it "the apple of love," the Germans "the apple of paradise." Tomatoes are rich in vitamins A and C and fiber, and are cholesterol free. An average size tomato boasts only 35 calories. Furthermore, research suggests that the consumption of lycopene - the stuff that makes tomatoes red - may prevent cancer. The scientific term for the common tomato is lycopersicon lycopersicum, which mean "wolf peach." It is a cousin of the eggplant, red pepper, ground cherry and potato. There are more than 10,000 varieties of tomatoes. According to a recent survey 68% of chefs use canned tomatoes for convenience, quality and flavoring. A fruit is the edible part of the plant that contains the seeds, while a vegetable is the edible stems, leaves, and roots of the plant. Cooked tomatoes have higher concentrations of lycopene than non-cooked tomatoes. Also, don't store ripe tomatoes in the fridge as cold temperatures lessen the flavor in tomatoes.

Focus Right Here, Right Now: Right now you have available to you everything you need to take one step forward. Once you take that step, you will have even more available to you to keep going. The more persistently you move forward, step by step, the more momentum you build. And it is a process that you can begin at any time. Focus on the one step that you can take right now. Let go of all regrets and resentment about what has already happened. Let go of all fears and anxieties about what may be yet to come. Put your energy into where you are, and use that energy to do what you can in this moment. Though there may be noise and confusion all around, you can transcend all those distractions. Decide to focus on the task at hand, for that is what will move you forward. Think of how great it feels to be moving in a positive, productive direction. Focus your energy right now and make it happen. (Daily Motivator)

Bad Day at Work: At one time or another you are bound to have a bad day. Be determined to not take your bad day home with you. Try these helpful tips to leave your horrible day behind you. Exercise - Go for a walk or stop by the gym to work off your frustration. Breathe - Take deep breaths, relax and meditate. Laugh - Laughter releases endorphins into your body which helps you feel good and is a stress releaser. Listen - Try relaxing music to sooth your mind. Engage - Pick an activity or hobby that relaxes you. Relax - Curl up on the couch and read a good book or watch a movie. The key is to be positive and remember that tomorrow is a brand new day!
