Exercise Success: How many times have you started an exercise program and then lost your momentum? You're not alone! Many people start with great intentions but soon lose motivation and end up avoiding exercise altogether. Here are some tips that might be useful for starting and sticking with an exercise routine and don't involve buying expensive foods or hiring a personal trainer. Instead, they involve common sense. Choose activities that are fun. Exercise doesn't have to be a chore and the more fun it is, the more likely you are to stick with it. Variety is the spice of life. Don't just find one thing and stick to it, your guaranteed to get bored eventually. Find a couple different types of exercise that you enjoy (swimming, biking, weight training, yoga, group exercise classes, etc.) and mix it up! Keep a record of your activities. Set small "achievable" milestones and reward yourself periodically. Nothing motivates and keeps you going like success! Make it a lifestyle. Short-term diets and fitness kicks don't work. Lifestyle changes that become part of your normal routine are important for long-term success. Watch the clock. Pick a time that's convenient and try to stick to it. If you get used to working out before work or walking during your lunch hour, you're more likely to stick with it. Don't be too hard on yourself. If you miss an exercise opportunity, try to work something else in rather than feeling down. If a lunch meeting interferes with your regular walk, go for a walk after dinner. Stay entertained. Music is a great motivator and can make exercise more fun. Create your own MP3 playlist, mix your own CD's or use books on tape while you're working out. Surround yourself with supportive people. Share your activity with others who want to see you succeed. It may be your family or friends, or a co-worker to run with at lunch or a workout partner at the gym. Slow and steady wins the race. Don't risk injury by pushing yourself too hard too quickly. Start with low to moderate level activities and gradually increase the duration and intensity of your workouts as you become more fit. Don't get lazy. While pushing yourself too hard is bad, not doing enough is equally bad! You should gradually increase the amount of weight you lift, the length of your cardio exercise, etc. to keep you moving towards your goal. (24 Hour Fitness )

Healthy Eating for a Healthy Family: It’s not hard to figure out how to eat a healthy diet; it just requires a little planning. The tools below are neither fad diets nor miracle cures. Rather, they are tried-and-true principles and guidelines that can help you develop your own personal diet program. Two useful tools are the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Food Pyramid: think of the Dietary Guidelines as building blocks and the Pyramid as the balanced and powerful structure that results when the blocks are all assembled together. Eat a Variety of Foods - To maintain good health, the human body needs more than forty nutrients. Eating a variety of foods greatly increases the chances you are getting all the nutrients you need. Each of the foods in the five food groups is made up of one or more macronutrients, each of which serves a different function in our bodies. The macronutrients are protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Balance the Food You Eat with Physical Activity and Maintain or Improve Your Weight - If you consume more calories than you use during the normal operation of your body you will store extra calories as body fat. This is the cause of weight gain. If you spend more energy than you consume, you begin burning your stored fat and you lose weight. Obesity is considered a risk factor for many diseases, including diabetes and heart disease, so balancing the diet with exercise is an important health goal. Eat Plenty of Whole Grain Products, Vegetables and Fruits - This is one of the easiest and most immediate ways to improve the diet. When you choose grains, vegetables, and fruits, you are choosing foods packed with plenty of vitamins and minerals, complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber. Choose a Diet Low in Fat, Saturated Fat and Cholesterol - Excessive fat in the diet contributes to health problems. The dietary guidelines suggest fat consumption be limited to a total of 30% of calories. In addition, the guidelines suggest that no more than 10% of total calories should come from saturated fat. Moderate Sugars, Salt, Sodium and Alcohol - Moderation in the diet is particularly important in regard to sugars. Although sugars provide energy, they contribute little else to the diet. They are, more or less, empty calories. Sodium is a mineral that helps to regulate the infusion of water in and out of the body’s cells. The recommended upper limit for the “daily value” is 2,400 milligrams per day, which is about one level teaspoon of table salt. The dietary guidelines define moderate drinking as one drink per day for a woman and two drinks per day for a man. (CNCA - Healthnotes)

Summer Pet Safety Tips: Summer is the perfect time to enjoy fun and sun with your pets. Unfortunately, summertime also presents situations and conditions that can be extremely dangerous to our furry companions. Here are a few tips to help keep your pets healthy, happy and safe this summer. On the Road - It's not only dangerous, but, in some states, it's now illegal to drive with an unsecured dog in the back of a pick-up truck. In warm weather, however, the interior of a truck or car can be even more dangerous, with temperatures reaching up to 120° in just a few minutes. Even parked in the shade, cats and dogs left in the car can suffer heat stroke, brain damage, and even death. If your pet is not allowed full access to wherever you're going, leave them at home. By the Water - Did you know that cats and dogs can become sunburned? According to the Humane Society, sunscreen may be required for some dogs and cats, especially those with light-colored noses and fur. Either way, it's important to provide plenty of water and shade for your pets. Also, keep in mind that cement, asphalt and sand can absorb a lot of heat and severely burn the pads of their feet. In the Yard - Summer is a breeding ground for hazardous creatures that can seriously harm your pets. Fleas, ticks and mosquitoes (a source of heartworms) are just a few of the critters you and your vet should discuss preventing. Remember, summer is also the season for health hazards in the garden as well. Beyond hundreds of varieties of plants that can be toxic to animals, some seemingly harmless plant foods, fertilizers and insecticides can severely threaten your beloved pet's health as well. Our pets add so much joy, love and happiness to our lives. In return, we owe it to them to keep them safe, healthy and strong.

Living Experience: Fulfillment comes from putting into experience what you already know to be true. It is the living expression of the person you most sincerely know yourself to be. You know you are a loving person. You find fulfillment by putting that love into action, by expressing and experiencing it. You know that you value success and accomplishment. Fulfillment of that value is found by living in such a way as to create and experience such success. You know that truth and integrity are of utmost importance to you. Fulfillment comes from putting truth and integrity into practice in every area of your life. Fulfillment can never be found by taking a generic, off-the-shelf dream and twisting it to fit your situation. Real fulfillment comes from the essence of who you are. Reach gently into the depth of your being and remind yourself of what's most meaningful. Know joyful fulfillment by putting that purpose into living experience. (Daily Motivator)

Fight the Fatigue: Feeling tired most of the time? Do you find yourself struggling to get through the day? You could be suffering from fatigue. Common causes of fatigue can be lack of sleep, inactivity, poor eating habits, stress and anxiety. To help you fight fatigue try these tips: 1) Develop good sleeping habits - Establish a regular sleep schedule by getting up and going to bed at the same time everyday, even on weekends. 2) Exercise on a regular basis, even when tired. 3) Eat a healthy diet daily include high fiber, whole grains, fruit and vegetables. Avoid drinking coffee, tea or caffeinated drinks after 6pm. 4) Manage your stress - Practice relaxation and take time for yourself ( Brought to you by Xenium)
