Every
Body Benefits from Pilates: Possibly
one of the most exciting aspects of Pilates is that
anyone can do it, and everyone can achieve amazing
results. Because there's no bouncing, jarring, or
stress to your body, Pilates offers the ideal form
of exercise for people who shy away from exercise.
You don't need any heavy, expensive equipment, and
you can do Pilates anywhere, anytime. Some of the
routines take less than 10 minutes, making Pilates
the perfect form of exercise for anyone who finds
there's not enough time in the day for exercise. Just
some of the many ways you can benefit from doing Pilates
regularly include: A Healthy, Supple Spine. Pilates
gives more support to your spine, creating space between
each vertebra. That extra space not only makes you
appear taller, it also creates more mobility, transforming
your spine from a stiff rod into a supple string of
pearls. Kinder, Gentler Conditioning with Better
Balance, More Coordination. Pilates provides a
wonderful way to ease into any kind of fitness plan.
Pilates puts little stress on your joints and ligaments.
It conditions your muscles in a balanced way and increases
your self-awareness by drawing your focus inward.
As you age, balance starts to deteriorate. Pilates
can help reverse this aging process by stabilizing
your core. Improved Mental Outlook and Increased
Motivation. Pilates benefits your emotional health.
The smooth, steady movements quiet your mind and soothe
your nervous system. As you lengthen and strengthen
your muscles, you'll improve your circulation and
whisk tension away. Less Pain and Stiffness. Appropriate
exercise is vital to managing arthritis, because it
increases flexibility for stretches and reduces pain
and fatigue. Stretching helps pump vital nutrients
to your muscles and tendons, which help keep them
healthy and minimize your risk of injury. (Prevention)

Navigating
Fruits & Veggies for Optimal Nutrition: Perhaps
no other department in your shopping market will give
you more variety and abundance of nutrition than the
produce department. The dizzying array of selections
can confuse anyone but here are some tips to be a
savvy consumer. Take your time. Many shoppers
go to the same old bins, buy the same old things,
and move on to the next section of the store. If time
permits, and your food plans are somewhat flexible
for the week, slow down and give the entire section
an once-over. What looks fresh? Interesting? On sale?
The produce section is the one area of a grocery store
that you should be willing to shift from the shopping
list and buy based on what's available. Fear no
fruit. Break out of your rut! Add a new fruit
or vegetable to your cart once every other week. The
key to a well-balanced food program is variety. Ask
the produce manager for tips on how to use the fruit
or vegetables. Look for quality. Avoid any
fruit or vegetable that is bruised or looks old. Fresh
is best. Look for nutrition. Most vegetables
will not come with labeling, but the information is
often available. Many markets now offer nutritional
information in the form of posters and pamphlets displayed
in the produce department. So if you want to determine
if broccoli has more fiber than green beans, the answer
is probably right there. (RD.com)

Last
month's trivia question: What are the three former
names of the Washington State Ferries System
was correctly answered by Patty Salvo of Washington.
The State of Washington maintains the largest fleet
of passengers and auto ferries in the United States
and third largest in the world. The system, currently
known as Washington State Ferries has a long history.
The ferry system has its origins as the Mosquito
Fleet, a collection of small steamer lines serving
the Puget Sound area during the later part of the
nineteenth century. By the beginning of the 1930's,
two lines remained: the Puget Sound Navigation
Company (also known as the Black Ball Line)
and the Kitsap County Transportation Company
(KCTC). A strike in 1935 forced the KCTC to close,
leaving only the Black Ball Line. Toward the end of
the 1940's, the Black Ball Line itself shut down.
In 1951, the state bought substantially all of Black
Ball's ferry assets for $5 million. It only intended
to run ferry service until cross-sound bridges could
be built, but these were never approved, and the state
Department of Transportation runs the system to this
day.

"The
secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret
of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming
tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting
on the first one." - Mark Twain.

The
Gift of a Shift in Perspective:
Do
you remember your first day on the job? Or how it
felt the first time you received a paycheck? It is
easy to get caught up in the everyday workflow and
forget the excitement of each new day. If you are
experiencing overwhelm or frustration in your work,
you might be stuck wearing old glasses.seeing things
the same old way. This month give yourself the gift
of a shift in perspective and remember, if you don't
like the old view.take a new look from a different
angle. (Brought to you by Jason
Stein Coaching)

The
Science Fiction Museum will induct "Star
Wars" creator George Lucas and three others
into its Hall of Fame in ceremonies on June 17. The
Seattle museum, created by billionaire Paul Allen,
will also induct the late Frank Herbert, author
of the "Dune" saga; the late Frank Kelly
Freas, known as the Dean of Science Fiction Artists;
and science fiction writer Anne McCaffrey,
author of "The Dragonriders of Pern." Other
science fiction notables already in the museum's hall
of fame include Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury,
Arthur Clarke, Steven Spielberg and H.G.
Wells.
The
Experience Music Project is
currently hosting several special exhibits, including
Bob Dylan's American Journey, 1956-1966,
and Yes, Yes, Y'all: The Birth of Hip-Hop.

The
Positive Side: With
every ending comes also a new beginning. With every
disappointment comes a new opportunity for success.
With every mistake comes a new and valuable lesson
to be learned. With every setback comes a new position
from which to move forward. With every frustration
comes the energy to move to a higher level of achievement.
With every challenge comes a new strategy for taking
action. With every time of darkness comes the chance
to make a real difference by shining your own special
light. With every sadness comes a deeper appreciation
for the joys that life can hold. With every difficulty
comes a new level of strength to be gained. With every
loss comes an increased determination to win. Though
life has many pitfalls and problems, there is a positive
side to every one of them. Choose to see and live
that positive reality, and no problem will be a problem
for long. (Global
Fitness)

Majoring
in Multi-tasking: Multi-tasking may seem
efficient, but it can increase stress, result in a
large number of half-done projects, and end up taking
more time to switch back and forth between projects.
Try turning off all electronic reminders and scheduling
specific times to check email and voicemail. Also,
write down things to do on a master list, instead
of post-it notes or scratch paper. Getting through
a project start to finish without interruptions can
result in better accuracy and less stress. (Brought
