Strong to the Core
Your core, as the word suggests, is your very center. It's where all movement in your body originates and where your center of gravity is located. If your core is weak, you're more susceptible to poor posture, lower back pain and muscle injury. Strong core muscles provide the support needed to help prevent these problems. A strong core is important for everyone. So, if you're just starting a workout regime, the core is the place to start. Here are some suggestions for getting the most out of your core workouts. Take a universal approach: Your core is a set of 29 different muscles surrounding your torso (abs, glutes, back muscles). But you don't have to exercise each one individually. Instead save time and look for equipment that gets all of these muscles working together. One idea is balancing on a fitness ball because you focus on using your core muscles for support. Ask a trained professional to recommend the best exercises to maximize your core workout. Go for quality, not quantity: You'll gradually work up to a greater number of repetitions, but a lot of repetitions won't be effective if your execution is wrong. Take it slow at first and learn how to properly perform each exercise with optimal technique. The best exercises are the traditional ones, like crunches and the plank. Give yourself a break: Experts recommend you fit in a core workout three times a week. If your muscles get tired, stop and change exercises. If you find you've overdone it and worked your core muscles to fatigue, wait at least a day between workouts to allow the muscles to recover. The idea is to work hard, work smart and take it easy when you need to.

Holiday Help
Holiday time is here. Try remembering this short list to help you enjoy the holiday season without busting the calorie bank.
- It's not one meal or choice that gets you into trouble, it's when a few become many so pick and choose when you calorie splurge and when it's just not worth it.
- Plan ahead. A lot of times you know what the menu will be since you've gone to office parties or the homes of friends and family before. Decide what you will and won't allow yourself to have.
- Don't go hungry. Only people with food issues starve all day to be able to go "hog wild." Eat normally, have a broth soup or hot beverage before you leave for the party so you feel in control and then "be in control."
- Don't stand or sit near the buffet. Make your plate and move away.
- Bring a surprise low fat dish to the party so you know there is one thing you can safely have.
- Fill your plate with fruits and veggies and then "top" with the special treat foods.
- Eat slowly and drink water or seltzer to help fill yourself up.
- Limit the alcohol which can blur your sense of fullness and packs on extra calories.
- Make a commitment to exercise on all party days, even add an extra effort to balance the extra calories.
- Don't make it just about the food. It's about seeing friends and family, sharing special moments. Enjoy the upcoming holiday times and appreciate yourself and the people around you. (FoodFit)

Stop and Smell the Hummus
Do you ever forget that this (the present moment) is it? There will never be another opportunity like the one you have right now this very moment. I am habitually forgetting this small but essential truth, that's why each night at the dinner table my family and I take turns and share one thing we are grateful for. One of the quickest ways I know to connect to your life balance is taking a moment each day for this reflection. There is no time like the present to enjoy the present, so in the tradition of our house, I have to ask, "What are you grateful for?" (Brought to you by Jason

Did You Know?
The Movies
Cinematography is the illusion of movement by the rapid projection of many still photographic pictures on a screen. A product of 19th century scientific endeavor, it has become an industry employing thousands of people and a medium of mass entertainment and communication. No one person invented cinema. However, in 1893 the Edison Company successfully demonstrated the Kinetoscope, which enabled one person at a time to view moving pictures. The first to present projected, moving photographic pictures to a paying audience were the Lumière brothers in 1895. At first, films were very short, sometimes only a few minutes. They were shown at fairgrounds, music halls or anywhere a screen could be set up and a room darkened. Subjects included views of foreign lands, short comedies and events considered newsworthy. The films were accompanied by lecturers, music and a lot of audience participation and although they did not have synchronized dialogue they were not 'silent' as they are sometimes described. By 1914, several national film industries were established. Films got longer and story telling, or narrative, became the dominant form. As more people paid to see movies, the industry that grew around them was prepared to invest more money in their production, distribution and exhibition; large studios were established and special theatres built. By the early 1930s, nearly all feature-length movies were presented with synchronized sound and by the mid-1930s many were in full color too. The advent of sound secured the dominant role of the American industry, and gave rise to the so-called 'Golden Age of Hollywood'. The introduction of television in America prompted a number of technical experiments designed to maintain public interest in cinema through the widescreen experience and movies as we see them today continue to provide much enjoyment.

Human Resource
Interview Gaffes
Interview horror stories abound on the Internet, in staffing firms across the nation and live on in the collective memories of corporations, taking on an almost folkloric quality. The basic dynamic of an interview creates tension from the outset, in both the interviewee and interviewer. Gaffes happen on both sides; as in the case of an interviewer who interrupted the interview no less than 13 times to answer her phone, handle inquiries from her staff and even to respond to emails sent to her. It goes without saying that both interviewer and interviewee should silence their phones prior to an interview and pay full attention to the meeting at hand. If interruptions from staff are a concern, an offsite interview at a coffee shop or quiet location is in order. Although, a candidate’s interactions with the rest of the company staff can be telling; as in the case of the candidate who screamed at another driver for accidentally cutting her off while entering the parking lot, only to later discover the other driver was the company president. Professionalism and respect are basic expectations on the part of all interview participants. Both parties should also avoid getting too personal in the initial interview. This tip can be learned from the candidate who indicated he was so interested in the position he had risked violating his parole by crossing state lines to attend the interview. This definitely raised some red flags. Credit where credit is due though - at least he was honest. (Brought to you by Xenium)
