Water Workouts from Low Impact to High Power: Some people envision water workouts as extremely low-impact classes found in retirement communities. Not so anymore as water workouts offer challenging cardio exercises, movements to stabilize your core and strength training to build muscle. Some liken the pool to a 360-degree weight room. And beyond the extra resistance found by working out in water, there are ways to add even more intensity to aquatic drills by widening the surface area of your body. You can cup your hands, lengthen your arms and legs instead of bending them and open up your hips by widening your knees to add resistance. Even though you can get a butt-kicking workout in the water, all water classes have one thing in common. The aqua advantage is when working out in the pool; there is less likelihood of injury. It is also perfect for people with arthritis or those who have sports injuries because you can exercise without pounding on a hard surface. Jump right in as you won’t need much to get started, just put on a bathing suit and hop in the pool. Most clubs have kickboards and foam noodles for the classes. However, if you’re not a strong swimmer, you might want to buy a buoyancy belt. For more advanced workouts you can purchase webbed gloves which provide more resistance or athletic water shoes to grip the bottom of the pool. Water workouts offer something for everybody. Even if you’re pregnant, have a back problem or you're overweight, there’s no excuse not to work out in the water. And if you’re muscle-bound and highly fit, you’ll still get an incredible workout. Foods Right for You: In trying to lower cholesterol, try to incorporate more of these foods into your daily diet. Almonds: Studies have found that eating just a quarter cup of almonds a day can lower your LDL. Of course, they can also be high in calories, so stick with a small serving and choose almonds that are dry roasted without oil. Oatmeal: You’ve seen the commercials with people proclaiming dramatic drops in their cholesterol numbers thanks to a daily serving of this hot cereal. Those great results are due to the high levels of soluble fiber found in oatmeal. The soluble fiber binds to the bile acids that are the precursor to the development of cholesterol and help flush it out. Fish: Omega 3 fatty acids are widely considered to be the best of the “good” fats, and the best place to find them is in fish, especially salmon, halibut and tuna. You can also get these fatty acids from walnuts and flaxseed and in fish oil supplements. Red wine: Not everything that’s good for you has to feel virtuous. A glass of red wine, which contains flavanols, has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties that may help lower cholesterol. These flavanols can also be found in red grape juice and dark cocoa. Soy: Soybeans, soy nuts and edamame, plus any products made from soy (like tofu, soymilk, etc.) can help to reduce the production of new cholesterol. Now that you know the good stuff to add to your diet, try to reduce, or better yet, eliminate bad-for-you foods like whole-milk dairy products, processed meats, fast food fries, tropical oils and processed baked goods. "Some of us tend to put off living. We are dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.”
– Dale Carnegie.

Water Appointment: This summer has been heating up the office, and you may forget to drink enough water. It’s quite amazing that we are made up of mostly water and this water is what helps us live in optimal health. This month try keeping a water bottle next to your desk with a reminding appointment in your calendar to drink plenty of pure, refreshing water. (Brought to you by Jason

In the 6th century BC Greek mathematician Pythagoras said that earth is round - but few agreed with him. Then, Greek astronomer Aristarchos said in the 3rd century BC that earth revolves around the sun - but the idea was not accepted. Next, in the 2nd century BC Greek astronomer Erastosthenes accurately measured the distance around the earth at about 40,000 km (24,860 miles) - but nobody believed him. Lastly, in the 2nd century AD Greek astronomer Ptolemy incorrectly stated that earth was the center of the universe - most people believed him for the next 1,400 years.

Fuel for Positive Action: The way to deal with the negative energy of worry is to transform it into fuel for positive action. Instead of being obsessed with what might happen, put your focus on what you are doing. When worry is the only outlet for your concerns, those concerns will grow more and more troubling. Focused, purposeful, effective action, on the other hand, points all your energy in a positive direction. And it soon creates a favorable momentum. Because of that momentum, little annoyances and distractions that otherwise would have brought you down are transformed into compelling reasons to push forward. When you are focused on action, even the setbacks give you fuel for yet more action. When you sense a worry on the horizon of your thoughts, stop and consider this; what positive, productive thing can you do, right here and now, that will drain the power from that worry before it ever gets to you? Get in the habit of seeing that every concern, every possible situation, provides fuel for positive action. Use that fuel to move you forward, and no longer will worry be an issue. (Global
