FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Providence Health & Services Honored for Providing Inflation Busting Solutions

PORTLAND, OREGON (February 2009)- In a time when many companies find themselves cutting employee benefits, Providence Health & Services is being recognized for providing custom programming to help staff members cope with tough economic times. In February 2009, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) honored Judy Samples, Regional Director of Providence Health & Services, and 15 other SHRM members with the “SHRM Economic Stimulus Prize.” The award recognizes members for developing human resources programs that help both businesses and employees weather the economic downturn.

In August 2008, Providence’s HR team announced an “Inflation Busters” program in response to employee concerns regarding the economy and company-wide reductions in operations and expenses.  The “Inflation Busters” program was designed to provide and promote employee benefits and discounts on recreation, transportation, wellness and education-related expenses.

The main component of the “Inflation Busters” package is the LifeBalance Program. A long-time feature for Providence employees, the LifeBalance Program offers Providence employees a wide variety of savings opportunities at thousands of recreational, cultural and wellness-related businesses throughout the Northwest.

“The LifeBalance Program has enjoyed a long-standing, successful relationship with Providence Health & Services,” said LifeBalance Director Dave Miller. “It’s exciting to hear that Providence is being honored by SHRM for their efforts to contribute to their employees’ wellness and financial stability. We are proud to be the cornerstone of the Providence “Inflation Busters’ program.”

In addition to offering employees thousands of savings options through The LifeBalance Program, Providence held sustainable living fairs and created an “Inflation Busters” intranet site, which features links to discount services, advice on how to save money and stay healthy during the recession and updated economic news articles.
